Overview: Principles and Practices in Social Emotional Development Through Music and Movement
Our curriculum is guided by core principles that ensure a nurturing, engaging, and effective experience for every child, fostering their social and emotional well-being.
-
We Prioritize Active, Embodied Learning: Recognizing that movement and sensory experiences are fundamental to early development, we design activities where children learn and explore emotions through active engagement with music and their bodies.
-
We Cultivate Emotional Responsiveness: Our staff models and fosters empathy, actively listening to and supporting children's emotional experiences to build trust and secure attachments.
-
We Build a Foundation of Respect and Kindness: We explicitly teach and practice respectful engaging interactions among all members of our learning community – children, staff, and within our shared space.
-
We Foster Resilience Through Challenge and Responsibility: We support children in embracing age-appropriate challenges and taking on small responsibilities within our musical activities. This helps them build perseverance, a sense of capability, and the confidence that comes from trying and learning, even when things are difficult.
-
We Champion Growth Through Play and Exploration: Using music as our guide, we create playful "adventures" that encourage curiosity, resilience, and the joy of learning through gradual progress and positive reinforcement.
-
We Guide Behavior with Empathy and Understanding: Instead of focusing solely on correction, we use supportive and age-appropriate methods to help children understand their actions and develop effective self-regulation strategies.
