Player Leads The Group with an Instrument

Purpose of this lesson:

In this game, one player has a turn to lead the group by playing a designated instrument, such as a particular drum or the handpan. The rest of the group might do specific movements like the 'wiggles game' or move with shakers or drums.

The leader has to give a clear 'Ready' signal and then the group plays. Once the leader starts, the whole group plays. Then, the leader has to signal a clear ending, and the group stops with the leader.

The students develop confidence and learn to stay grounded in front of a group.

This game allows students to try different instruments.

Everyone in the group gets to participate.

Students learn to give clear signals. And also follow various signals and cues.

By having the role of leading or following, students can learn to appreciate the function of leadership.

The music is improvisational in such a way that you can play it correctly.

The group can work to play a groove that holds together. Students gradually learn to make the best choice for the moment.

Students can genuinely have fun doing this game. They move, make music, and interact. It can feel more like a party and celebration than just a 'class'.
