Parading Playing a Drum
Parades are a simple, joyous way to celebrate and enjoy movement, music, and community.
Drumming while playing a drum offers a unique integration of full embodied rhythm. Walking create a natural stable integrated rhythm. We can use that rhythm and more medium and fine motor movement to it.
Level 1:
Just give students a drum and 1 stick. "Walk and play however you want".
Teacher plays an organizing beat on a bigger deeper drum that students can gradually synchronize with.
Level 2:
Just give students a drum and 1 stick. "Play one note every time you put down your right foot".
Teacher plays the same beat. Teacher walks backwards to show the beat and steps.
Level 3:
Just give students a drum and 1 stick. "Play Right and Left" also known to kids as the 'coconut' rhythm.
