Watermelon Duet

About:

[THIS write up is under construction!!]

Purpose of this lesson:

This involves keeping time either antiphonally within in  a group or between partners.
'Watermelon' works as a good way to teach the feel of 'sixteenth' notes.

Prerequisites:

Marco Polo-

Directions:

Have half the group say "Water"
Then have the other half say "Melon"
Continue going back and forth so the rhythm gets into a flowing 16th note pattern.
Add the drums. Play 'Water' as basses. Play 'Melon as sides or edges'.
The two sides of the group can line up across from each other and each set of partners shares one drum.

Level 1.     Have the whole group can step this pattern and say the syllables: "Wa  - ter  -  mel - lon".

Glitches:

Level 2.     Have everyone  continue doing the step together but have half of the  group say, "Wa - ter" then have the other half of the group say "Mel - lon".

Switch parts.
