Bounce, Catch, Clap A Small Ball - To Self
Understand the movement, timing velocity of the ball
Develop aim, control.
Develop meta cognition- learn about learning.
It may be useful to give each student a particular spot to stand it. They are only allowed to bounce their ball if they are on that spot. Use small (10" x10") yoga mat squares.
Model the kind of bounce that you are looking for.
- Waist high,
- Set a rule about how high you are allowed to bounce a ball. I set limit at the top of the head. If a student bounces higher than their head, they are out of bounds and need a reset.
- Throw using a hand shake position
- Catch the ball with palm facing up.
- Clap the ball to the other hand strongly enough so the the sound it audible.
Level 1As they attempt to do this, give clear precise descriptive feedback particularly of what they are doing well.
"I like how you had your two hands on the ball and waited for your partner to take the ball. I like how you exchanged eye contact."
It is important that during the pass, there are four hands on the ball.
The more a student senses that moment the more they invoke their 'salience/feel network, not just their do/ deal network. (Network Balance Model).
