Bounce A Large Ball To Self
Bounce A Large To Self
Purpose:
Develop hand eye coordination with both bouncing and with catching.
Doing an activity with a little less supervision more or less on one's own
Sense of rhythm and flow, gravity.
Develop a particular mastery.
Directions:
Mark out distinct spots for students to stand. I like to use small mats.
Have students bounce an catch the ball with two hands.
Make the clear rule, if you bounces higher than your head,
you loose the priveldege of having a ball for a while ( usually about 30 seconds).
Set challenges for how many bounces can a student do in a row before they drop the ball.
This is not a competion with other students. This is about doing your best.
Preempt some potential acting out, by having Dragon do undesired behaviors.
Such as:
- Taking someone elses ball
- Bouncing the ball and hitting yourself in the face
- Bouncing off the walls,
- Bouncing ball too high
When done, Celebrate All the Rules Not Broken
Reinforce the positive consequences of doing the activity. For example. "I love that you could do that activity with out bouncing the ball off the wall. Now you have earned some more freedom. Because this went well we can do more activities like it."
Glitches:
- Students start doing something else besides working on bouncing the ball.
- When you can complete the x number of passes, you are free to play how you want, within our group rules.
- Students breaks any of the rules.
- Student is asked to take a 'Reset'
- Student start competing for who has the highest number of bounces.
- Take Over The Problem. Emphasize the shame that people start feeling.
