Easy way to start playing patterns together. Set up a rhythm to work together as a group. Playing each rhythm 4 times sets up a kind of comforting orienting entrainment. Students come up with ideas contribute to the class. Address obligations, and freedoms. Natural energy, Adapted energy.

Once students have gotten Boom Boom rest rest, Now play "Boom, Boom, clap clap clap".
This game is called 'Boom, Boom, do what you want' because the first part of each rhythm is 'Boom, Boom'. And the second part someone gets to make up. We will usually play each of these rhythms 4 times. This repetition of 4 times allows student to learn and get into the rhythm and people tend to hear groups of 4 as complete.

Then, depending with where a group is in their development, I may ask for suggestions, from whoever is ready with a new pattern. "What's another pattern we can play after the Boom, Boom?
If the group is well warmed up and in a good flow, I might go around the circle. (let students know they can pass)
