Pass A Bean Bag Around The Circle - Receive, Toss To Self, Pass
Purpose:
Contact, Cooperation, Coordination particularly with peers / other students.
Hand eye coordination and timing.
Understanding the focus mechanics, timing and physics of the toss
Developing focus and control with tossing
Directions:
Level 1: Receive, Toss to Self, Pass
Depending on how well regulated students are and how coordinated they are, this exercise can be done sitting cross legged on the floor, sitting in a chair or standing.
Have students on a specific marker. Student has a ball passed to them. They toss it one time and catch with both hands. Then they pass it to the next person.

Glitches:
- Student toss the bean bag with no control, it goes too high and in wrong direction.
- Be sure to affirm positive efforts, not just results.
- Take over the problem, emphasis inattention and carelessness.
- Some students have little experience with the timing and physics. Sometimes they just need time to experiment and practice.
- Have students toss bean bag just a few inches high. Each round aim for a few more inches. Celebrate precision!
Level 2: Receive, Toss to Self, Pass on Balance Boards
Depending on how secure students are with passing activities, and with being on Balance boards, you can adjust the balance level.
Glitches:
- Student insists on putting the board on a level that they can not manage.
- Be sure to affirm positive efforts, not just results.
- Take over the problem, emphasis judgement and consequences to others.
Next Exercise:
Pass an instrument around the room- play a particular 'piece' such as pluck each string on a ukulele.
